After three decades of serving as a cherished family retreat where thirteen grandchildren grew up exploring these mountain trails, the Village of Mount Zion is entering an exciting new chapter. Dr. Sabates' daughter Kristy is thoughtfully restoring each home and building on the property, honoring her father's original vision while updating the spaces to welcome guests for retreats, weddings, and events. This restoration isn't just about renovating structures—it's about preserving a legacy of faith, family, and hospitality for generations to come.

Restoring the Village

The History
Founded in 1996 by Dr. William “Bill” Sabates, one of Miami’s leading ophthalmologists, the Village of Mount Zion was born from faith and family. After leaving a thriving medical career, Dr. Sabates followed God’s call to the Shenandoah Valley to build a sacred retreat center — a place of peace, prayer, and renewal. Now, thirty years later, the Village has been renewed and restored and will reopen in 2026 to once again welcome guests for retreats, events, and weddings!
